Chiropractic Care for Cats, Dogs, and Breeding Stock: Supporting Lifelong Health from the Very Beginning

Why Puppies and Kittens Benefit from Chiropractic Care
One of the most impactful times to introduce chiropractic care is early in life.
Birth itself—whether natural or assisted—places stress on the spine and nervous system. As puppies and kittens grow, slip, tumble, and learn to move, minor misalignments can develop and quietly influence posture and movement patterns.
Many animal chiropractors recommend adjusting puppies and kittens before they go to their new homes to:
- Support proper neurological development
- Encourage balanced growth
- Reduce early compensation patterns
- Promote optimal comfort and adaptability
At Alpine Animal Chiropractic, we adjust entire litters complimentary when we are already providing care for the breeding female.
Chiropractic Certificates for New Puppy & Kitten Owners
An added benefit for breeders is the ability to provide chiropractic adjustment certificates for each puppy or kitten when they go to their new home.
These certificates can include:
- The breeder’s name, logo, and contact information
- Confirmation that the puppy or kitten was evaluated and adjusted
- Education on why chiropractic matters
- Guidance on how often to continue care
This not only adds value for new owners, but also reinforces the breeder’s commitment to responsible, whole-animal health.

How to Find a Properly Trained Animal Chiropractor
Not all chiropractors who “work on animals” have the same level of education.
Pet owners and breeders should always seek doctors who have completed postgraduate animal chiropractic training and certification.
Finding a properly trained animal chiropractor is essential. An animal chiropractor must be a licensed Veterinarian (DVM) or a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) and should also be certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). This certification requires completion of a rigorous post-doctoral program consisting of a minimum of 210 hours of advanced education beyond their doctoral degree. Always ensure your provider is properly trained in the safe and effective care of animals.
A trusted resource is www.animalchiropractic.org, where you can use the “Find a Doc” feature to locate properly educated and certified animal chiropractors in your area.
Caring for Cats and Dogs—At Home or in Office
Most cats and dogs respond beautifully to chiropractic care. Many cats relax deeply during adjustments and often surprise their owners with how well they tolerate sessions.
For animals that are shy, territorial, or stressed by travel, in-home visits may be ideal. Others do very well in an office setting.
Our office is proud to care for both cats and dogs, and we are always happy to support local pet owners, breeders, and new adoptive families in creating a strong foundation for lifelong health.
Chiropractic care isn’t just about fixing problems—it’s about supporting the body so problems are less likely to occur.
For pets, breeders, and future generations alike, that foundation matters.
